The List
The list is open, and I'm changing gears a bit. I've had a lot more demand for F5's recently, so for the foreseeable future that's what I'll be building. However, if you are interested in an A5, don't hesitate to let me know. I can tuck sporadic A5 orders in F5 batches, and possibly plan for another A5 batch.
As far as my builds go, I'm targeting the aesthetics of the Lloyd Loar era mandolins with a few minor variations. The shapes of my fretboards, pickguards, and A5 headstocks are my own design. I'm very well stocked with air dried and well seasoned Sitka, Engelmann, and Adirondack Spruces. I'm also sitting on a great supply of Western Big Leaf and Eastern Sugar & Red Maples. I do have some other species that are prime candidates for tops & backs, and if you're interested we'll talk. I'm asking for a $1000 deposit to hold a spot on the list with the balance due upon completion. If you're interested in talking shop, give me a shout! Thanks!

For Sale
F5 #99 from 2023 (Like New)
Here's one I built with myself in mind, and one to get to know Birdseye maple a little better. Adi blacktop, Birdseye all around, 12" radius on the fretboard, EVO fret wire, 1 1/8" at the nut, comfy rounded "V" neck profile, Rubner tuners, Cumberland Acoustic bridge, hand engraved Prucha tailpiece, brushed oil varnish finish with French polished top coat, and comes with a white, fiberglass Superior case. Very punchy, and perfect in a loud bluegrass setting. Warms up and gets louder through a session. Minimal wear, and pretty much in new condition. $12,000 + shipping.
F5 #17 from 2017
Selling this one for a friend. He recently picked up another one of my builds, and is moving this one down the line. It has seen some summer festivals, so I sanded down the spirit varnish, and built it back up with oil varnish & French polished a thin top coat. Pretty much a complete re-fin. While in my hands, I also dressed the frets & gave it a fresh setup. Early 1980's Alaskan Sitka top, x-bracing, 1-pc big leaf maple back, nut at 1 5/32", radius on the fretboard, neck profile is comfortably round, ebony pickguard with side bracket, Gil/Northfield collaboration tailpiece with my script logo engraved, and comes in a brown, leather case with red interior. Strong voice & fun picker! $8000 OBO + shipping.
I'm mainly a banjo player, but here's a little bit of what #17 sounds like. Recorded on my phone.
And a couple offerings elsewhere online at the moment: #71 from 2021 & #82 from 2022.
Or you could just call me at 503-333-2983!
Thanks!
